OK, I've been digging and digging but can't find anything related to any free .pdf downloads on the net. Specifically I'm in search of anything that gives a visual dipiction/name of specific U.S. stamps, from the mid-1800's up to the 1950's or 60's. I'm not too concerned with more modern stamps.
Reason being is I need to ID my collection so I can properly organize the display pieces and archive the 'for sale or trade' extras (or ones I simply don't have interest in). I'm not needing any in-depth detailed examples, such as listing misprints etc. For now I'm mainly looking to identify the specific years of production.
So do any of you have any idea if such a list exists? I'd hate to have to punch in every identifying moniker of my stamps one at a time to properly ID them, and at present I can't afford one of the Scott's ID books.

22crows, thats close enough to what I'm looking for, thanks!
I'm indexing it so I can access it off line since I'll be losing internet access for such things soon. I'll have posting ability off and on, but not regularly.
Again, thanks! |

I like arago.si.edu - you can search for individual stamps by scott catalog number. It's got great, high resolution scans.

Both the swedishtiger and 1847usa sites are great places for information and the images for identifying are great at both sites but then again this forum has a wealth of information and knowledgeable people that you can actually ask questions and get answers. Can't get that at the others. SCF rules. |

I mostly use arago unless it is an issue with many varieties, then I use 1847usa |

All the feedback is great, thanks. I've made some notes from the sites for reference later. While I love to ask questions and eagerly anticipate whatever information I receive, I'm not always going to be able to do so here. And with as many stamps as I have already acquired, it would be impractical to do so. |
