Looking at the two images in the first post...each of the handful that I have are much closer to the block than the catalogue illustration.

wert, I think you have what we all have.

Newfoundland 258, the 7c from 1942, is also listed as violet blue in Scott Classic. (I didn't check Unitrade, as I left it at the office. I'll bet it is the same.) It offers another set of data points where you can compare illustrations and examples.
