Hi...I have this Scott #237 stamp that has been bugging me for a while..I believe it to be a regular Scott #37..BUT..The perforation is not correct..As you can see with the pictures provided, the standard Scott 37 perforation is classified as 12x12...As you can see, mine is 12.25 x 12.25 perforation and my stamp is a lot darker than the average Scott #37,..I have shown it up against 3 other Scott #37's...The colour of this stamp is darker than the actual pictures show and when you look at the colour pictures of the perforation, realize that it is under bright lights..Any comments would be appreciated..Thanks.

Until recently (last 15 years or so), Scott reported perforations to the nearest 1/2 gauge. So, a 12.25x12.25 actual measurement would have been rounded to 12x12 or 12.5x12.5. I don't know what the Unitrade's editor's policy is/has been regarding perforation measurements.

Try using the other stamps as a gauge to see if they match.

Hello wert,

It may be a variety of #37. The perf variety of number 37 that is more than 12 (in my 2012 Unitrade) are:
37d which is 12.5 x 12.5 - copper or indian red in colour.

The other option is that it is a 41a which measures 12 x 12.25 and is described as rose carmine in colour

Cheers,

The perforation 12.25 x 12.25 does exist. However, some who look into perforations may have some trouble with a perforation measurement that is between perforations of Kiusalas 64 and 65 which the Kiusalas gauge doesn't cover.

Well..I measured my 3 other stamps and came up with

1 - 12.25 x 12.25
2 - 12 x 12
3 - 12.25 x 12.25

Wow..they are all over the place..Now I am really confused..haha

Hi Wert,

You should read this earlier thread as it will provide you with some more information to assist your understanding.

https://goscf.com/t/22248&SearchTerms=37,perf

In fact, you were a participant of this earlier thread, and on the top of the 2nd page you provided the same stamp scan that you started this tread with. BeeSee identified it as Scott 41 - vermillion.

As mentioned, 12.25x12.25 exists in the later printings (as also mentioned, it is #41)
More common to see 12x12.25, or even 12.25x12

the 12.25x12.25 is less common

The Small Queens are quite a study.

Yup I think #41 or 41a.

It is best to measure the perfs and do the math, that is more accurate than a gauge.
