The stamp on the right, which dates from 1983, seems to be missing a colour (light brown?). Or was it reissued this way?

Has anyone seen this (apparent) error before?

I am thinking that this stamp is more like a 'changeling' than a colour missing?

Also, by the scruff marks across the face of the right stamp also suggests to me that there may have been some soaking damage as well (?)

Maybe other members more informed can provide an answer?

Hi Bujutsu,

I soaked this stamp off a piece of paper myself and there was no soaking damage. This is what the stamp looked like when it was used for postage.

What you call scruff marks seem to me quite common and seem to occur when the ink on the sheet is not completely dry and another sheet is placed on top of it. When the sheets are separated, small amounts of the surface are removed.

It's annoying, but unfortunate, that this happened to what seems to me to be a real case of a missing colour.

However, apparently some Australian stamps have been reissued in somewhat different colours, so I'm interested in checking whether or not this was the case with this stamp.

Thanks for commenting!
