have yet to add a PB to my collection but this one really jumped at me. Does anyone know if there is a known plate flaw to cause the neck spot or is it likely just an oversized lint blemish from printing process.
Also on the subject this 2p blue-- The left side "A" is very off alligned and wondering if that was the norm for the AA corner?
I realize plating and study is key but any quick tips on these 2 would be appreciated.

2d Blue had check letters done with a hand punch so variations in position are expected. "Blind" A's mean plate 4 also.

Might try checking this link. I scanned it quick. It show "blind A's". That is the top of the A filled in. Didn't see any mention of alignment, but I just scanned the site quick.

Cannot find anything like that Plate 2 "blemish" in Stanley Gibbons.

Edit... two heads are better than ONE, stampcrow. Thanks for the link.

The blemish in the black is way to large not to be listed if it were ever a plate problem so its likely from build up on the roller or a pc of debris. Close up it looks like a stab wound. Now I am wondering if this would add or detract value. By no means am I an avid GB collector although I have quite a qty when I do decide to start studying. Just not sure wether picking up a $50 2-3 margin PB just to say I have one or better to grab something like this one that is a bit unique.

I'd leave this one alone. That penny black with those particular check letters is one of only 55 on the sheet of 240 without a flaw. The "blemish" in my view would detract from what is supposed to be close to a (near) perfect specimen.

If I was awash in PBs, I might consider this as an interesting variety, but it would not be my first (or third).

My 2d.

(But if you like it, then...)
