Ya..It does neat things with images and anyone can download the software for FREE...If anyone wants to get it in Windows or Mac form, just let me know..It was developed for Linux which I use, but is available for other forms of OS.

Can you do the same effect to the 3c Large Queen I posted (see above page 1) and post the pic here. I think it would be interesting to see. |

jim, In the interest of a good understanding, this effect does not really indicate any depth. While interesting, the software simply looks at color deltas and turns it into a color histogram. So if, for example, you took a black marker and drew a line on the stamp, it would show up as 'depth'. Don |

ok. I thought that it would have that 3D effect with the depth in the Plate Crack lines as the other block of 4c did. I guess not. So this one is not as cool as the other one.
Thanks for giving us a look at it though ! |

Edit: opps, Robert beat me to it. Robert can has supply links for the software he used but please note that color histograms are a part of just about any good graphics application (search your application Help file for 'color histogram). These types of color histograms simply convert a 2D image into another 2D image by using the color map to determine the 'peaks and valleys' you see. For example, look at Robert's image here and note how the black cancelation shows as a 'valley' Robert has provided the image above which was configured to illustrate that the deeper the valley, the darker the color. This has value in determining the color map of the stamp image and certainly can be useful in that way. But unfortunately some folks may mistakenly think it reflects 'peaks and valleys (or 3D) on the stamp itself. There are no applications that 'automagically' turn a 2D image into a 3D image. To do that humans must interface with the application start defining the Z axis points for it to work with. (And this is generally high end graphics application which few of us would have access to.)
