I just got this cover as a Buy It Now on ebay. An unbelievable find! Major Wright was my great grand Uncle, the brother of my great grandmother Martha Isabelle Wright Strong, son of Stephen Wright, my great great grandfather. Major Wright was the Bedeque Postmaster for many years in the late 1800's. You can see P.O. Bedeque on the old PEI map below. He owned a general store there (the post office was inside) and owned some acreage just south or Bedeque, also shown on the map. Here are the sellers scans, I just can't wait to get the cover!

Congratulations on the find BeeSee. Finding something on ebay with a personal connection from almost 150 years ago must have been a shock! I may be wrong with my genealogy but wouldn't Major Wright be your great grand uncle rather than your great uncle? |

Actually you are right (or Wright LOL) that is a typo on my part. I have corrected it.

Great find BeeSee! For some time I have made it a habit to check ebay covers for that reason. Have seen covers come up that were friends of the family. The cover with a family ancestral chart makes a great genealogical display. |

BeeSee - what category was that under on ebay? In other words - what drew you to that cover? |

CanadaStamp, for years I have been using a key search for "Bedeque" on ebay, under "all categories". Nothing significant ever came up, except in the past year I found three items related to the Wright clan, but this one was the most significant. I will eventually post the others. |

Here is a map of PEI showing the lot divisions and the location of Bedeque. |

Great find for a collector and doubly so for your connection. Thank you for sharing the image and the story. This is the kind of thing that ebay (hate it or love it) is good for -- connecting us to the world and the beauties or uglies sitting in boxes, attics or desks around the world. Something like this would have been very unlikely to occur in the 1970s. I'd be curious : where in the world was the cover? Ie, where is the seller? |

Tommy the cover has travelled. Mailed from England to PEI, and somehow ended up in Spain - that is where the ebay seller is located. |
