Hi guys, I need some help figuring out which stamp is which unless they are both the same stamp with different toning, which I doubt. Hopefully there's someone out there that is knowledgeable in British Virgin Islands classic stamps. I found a dealer card with these two stamps and the card is marked that one is a Scott# 7 and the other is an #8. According to the Scott worldwide, the stamps are identical in terms of color (rose and black), perf (12) and value (1 shilling). The only different is that #8 is under the heading "Colored Margins" but I have no idea how to interpret that looking at these stamps. If I had to guess, I would say it's the slight toned paper on the left hand stamp, but that's a complete guess.

Can anyone tell me which is which and how you can tell? Pics for your viewing pleasure:

Thanks,
Dan

I'm no expert, but the Scott description says "rose & black" which implies the stamps are two-colored. Those examples look single color to me.

Just my observation.

Cheers, Robert

22crows - You're bang on the money, thank you! I am so used to the specialized catalogs with photos of everything that I make silly mistakes using these general worldwide Scott catalogs, and I actually only just noticed the 20 when I posted the scans before leaving for work. So these are 20 and 20a.

Trainwreck - The color things is what was confusing me as well, it made no sense.

Thanks again guys. Later on I hope I can get some help with some #1 to #50 France... some of these have slight color variances and I just can't tell which is which. I've got them in a corner until I work myself up to tackling them lol!
