Hi All - I'm new, and very much at the beginning of learning this. My father passed away and left an enormous collection. I am starting with the smallest and least valuable album first - my priorities are to correctly identify, value and describe for sale. The plan is to use ebay to start selling these (to provide my mother with a bit of extra income).

I would be VERY grateful for any tips, web page resources, corrections etc. Attached is a picture of the first 9 stamps I have tried to ID and value. Here is my effort, with description, stanley gibbons valuation and the range they seem to go for on ebay.

Please point me in the right direction, or let me know if its about right! The last thing I want to do is mis-sell on ebay!

1. Antigua SG6. 1863-67 Wmk Small Star. 1d. dull rose (1864). Used

Hello rj1978, welcome to Stamp Community!

I do not know Antigua stamps too well, but those look good.

Sounds silly right? Not really because they are well-centered, nice colour for most, the cancels (cancellations / postmark obliterations) are done nicely so you can then read the number of the Post Office where they were cancelled (devalued for postal use) and this adds value to them.

The well centered idea caught me as the last 4 are but only the top center orange (eye catching) stamp is, which makes the other 4 look OK, at least on first glance.

On ebay, in case you haven't sold much on it before, the Title of the item is important to catch people's interest and to get them to click.

Then the picture and the description below, if you choose to have one.

Good stuff will sell, but medium to poor stuff (common or bad cancels or bad centering or condition, including the backs) will not sell without some special thing that maybe one person out of 100 (all you need) is looking for.

To sell stamps singly on ebay or Delcampe worldwide I think you need to realize that the turnover rate is not always 100% and take what you get as a lesson or a learning and move on to the next sale with new knowledge.

If you don't ask, you don't learn.

Doug

I forgot to say that using the Search (button at top right) feature on Stamp Community SCF here or on Google that leads back to SCF can yield lots of useful information also.
