As early as the Christmas season of 1914 some of the soldiers at the front decided on a cease fire. A few even got together for Christmas or a game of ball before returning to their trenches. A monument stands at St. Luke's in Liverpool. Commemorative sheet St. Vincent and the Grenadines, 2014.

The Sobibor death camp was on the eastern edge of German-occupied Poland. On October 14, 1943, during the revolt by the Jewish prisoners the Nazis were overpowered and several hundred prisoners escaped. Following the revolt the death camp ceased to function. The stamp (2015) features one of the monuments erected at the site of the camp in 1965.

Thanks Alexey for sending this valuable addition to the collection! K.

This is not a "legal" Latvian stamp, because the country was not allowed to issue any of its own between 1940 and 1991. Interesting is the date 1918, the year in which Latvia declared its independence. Maybe there is someone out there who knows more about this stamp, for example where it was printed... (I found this scan on ebay)

Hi Outremer, Nice addition! K.

I think that this label came out somewhere in the US. The text is for some reason in English and there is a postmark

Fair Dinkum alphabet illustrator and designer Gavin Ryan has been working as a guest illustrator with Australia Post for many years. His X includes a farmer's barbed wire fence, the barbs are small X-es. (Scan of a maxicard I found on the web.)
