Liberation of the concentration camps by cutting the barbed wire with a bayonet; powerful symbolism. 1995 The artwork was done by Howard Koslow (1924-2016), the American illustrator who designed numerous postage stamps for the USPS.  |

Both Germans and Koreans know about walls of barbed wire separating their populations after a war. This cancellation was issued for the philatelic exhibition in Frankfurt highlighting friendship between the two countries. Note that the Brandenburg Tor is open and the DMZ is not, but there is a peace dove between the two.  |

The Tanzanian stamp of 1995 commemorates the liberation of the concentration camps in 1945. Many wires carried lethal levels of electricity.  |

For the International Year of Human Rights (flame logo) in 1968 Qatar showed an Arab family fleeing, in the background part of a concentration camp fence with watchtower.  |

The Bulgarian stamp of 1949 shows a hurdle jumper and behind him a soldier easily jumping over a wire entanglement, even while carrying full gear. The message - keep in shape with lots of sports in order to be a good soldier.  |
