Ok, after my last post about Linn's, I thought I would post a quick guide on how to turn an online version of Linn's Stamp News into a PDF you can stick on your tablet/phone.

You'll need two pieces of software:

A web browser (this tutorial will use Firefox: http://www.mozilla.com)
PDFcreator (you can download here: http://www.pdfforge.org/pdfcreator)

A word of warning on PDFcreator! Even though PDFCreator is completely free, the installer tries to install the Amazon toolbar. On the screen where it wants you to install the toolbar, just click cancel and the installer will move on without installing the tool bar.

Ok, so launch your browser. Click on the firefox button in the upper left and go to Page Setup.

On the first tab, pick the following settings:

The second tab should be set as follows:

Click OK when all the settings are correct.

Head over to www.linns.com. Type in your email address and click on Go.

Double click on the issue on the left after you log in:

The issue should now fill the browser window.

In the Linn's toolbar on top, click on the print button:

A box will pop up asking you to pick the page range:

The top one should be page 1

The bottom one should be the last page of the document

Click on the Print button.

The Windows print dialog box will appear:

Pick PDFCreator from the printer list and choose OK.

You will see a print progress box.

Once that's done, a save box will popup.

I recommend changing the document title and author. You can see in the screenshot what I use.

Click Save and you'll have a PDF.

A couple of notes:

1. All the links to the ads go away when you do this.
2. Each page is an image file, so as you zoom in, things start to get fuzzy.

As a side note, Google Chrome has PDF printing built into the software, precluding the need for PDFCreator.

When I printed the February 10 issue of Linns using Chrome, the file size was 104MB. The size created by PDFCreator was 19MB. Quite a difference in savings there.
