Coinwatcher, I hope you follow advice of real collectors here. Why not list your item for 7.50 and see how much more are people willing to pay. That is what determines the market value.

The bay is not a fair market place. I listed a stamp the other day that booked for $20,000.00 starting at .99C and received only one bid of .99C and shipped the stamp at a cost of $2.50. Fair? No! But as an honest seller I sent the stamp to the buyer. I will never list low again.
On the other hand I bought over 350 stamps on the bay the other day mostly used 19th century with a book value over $300 and paid only $2.75. Fair? No.

i will never list at 99cents also on ebay as same happened to me, you would think people would flock to 99cents like moths to a flame but it didn't work in my case and I got one bid, lol.

now if I was to list low on an item I wanted more from I would use a reserve price- no one sees the price but you and if they bid 99cents with a reserve of more then they are not going to win the auction. That happened to me just yesterday and I wrote the guy and reminded him the auction had a reserve, he or no one else bid on the item, if I did not protect it with a reserve it would be gone sold for peanuts.

another item was catalog $20,000 but it had a tear right side I listed low low low and put a reserve and I made the reserve sent it to japan was cool how that works.

to get back to the point, if you have an established client base, then listing at 0.99 may work for you. Some stamps sellers do that.

If you are not an established seller, the simple solution is to start an auction at the price you are willing to accept. Or you could list at fixed price. I don't think the majority of sellers like to bid when there is a reserve, at least I know that I don't.

However, the point is, you HAVE to have some idea of what your item is really worth (market, not catalog value).

A good example was given. If THE major re-entry (listed in the Catalog) has a market value of a few hundred (maybe less if poorly centered, heavily cancelled), there is no way this stamp can be worth more.

Maybe it is worth more because everyone licked it and mailed it,and garbaged it because it was "only a guide dot",and not a noticeable re-entry.

reserve is "Not" for everyday run of the mill it "Is" for special items.

what is a special item only you know that lol.

i would never list all my items 99cents I don't think many would, the list at a reasonable start price would be better.

Case and point - You have a 1 cent Franklin up for sale now that you list having a double transfer. Please tell us what it's been plated as. If you can't then it's a deceptive sale, without knowing it's plate and position you can't possibly list it as having a double transfer.

Stallzer, quit being ridiculous. The plate position is on the listing. It is an 86R1L. That is an obvious dbl transfer. It is one of the easier dbl transfers to see.

So the greatest studies of the Franklin stamp, Neinken,and Ashbrook both missed it, but you didn't. Give me a break.

Stallzer, check Neinken's book and you will see 86R1L is listed as a double transfer. PLEASE STOP!

Coinwatcher I have been watching for a LQ like this with the dot in UL corner since you made this post about 5 months ago. I have viewed thousands of 2c LQ's and have not seen one like yours. Would you take $400.00?
