Can anyone suggest a good accurate dotted perforation gauge that measures in quarters? I have some that do measure in quarters, but I have found them to be inaccurate.

Jogil, I do not do a whole lot of perf measuring, but I found the Sonic Imagery Labs Precision U.S. Specialty Multi-Gauge real useful. At about $20 it is a bit pricey, but it does an awful lot!

I have and use the Sonic Imagery Labs one too. Very much worth the cost.

You could also search for "ePerforationGauge" which is free software that will detect quarters. Once you figure out how to use it, it is pretty accurate, IMHO. John

I have both the Sonic and the Instanta gauges as well. It seems I am looking for one that has dots in quarters that is accurate.

I've used my Showgard Perforation Gauges by Vidiforms for decades. They no longer make the and they are scarce as hens teeth, but I like them and use them EVERY day!

The Sonic multi-gauge is $16 total w/shipping on ebay. Just double checked and I see a listing for 14.99 free shipping.

EDIT: Oops, just noticed you already have one. Mine is on the way. I don't know if you can find one or if it is more accurate, but have you tried the original US Kiusalas Specialist Gauge?

John, did you download ePerforationGauge recently? I just get stuck in a "loop" when I try to download the program from the eperforationgauge website.

raymodj: I actually just downloaded it again, to see if it's working. Downloaded and extracted perfectly for me - I used the "download" link at the eperforationgauge web site - perhaps it was just a temporary problem?! John

Thanks John. It was my browser. I just tried again in IE instead of Chrome and it worked. Now to go play around with it...

Has anyone had any luck in using the revised 5.2 Sonic Multi-Gauge for measuring the hole sizes of the 1954 Liberty Series? I believe that the perf. for this part of the gauge should be 9.7, instead of 10.Could I be using the gauge incorrectly?

I am working on a Canadian Specialist Gauge that has measurements based on the actual hole spacing of the perforations rather than rounded values. It also includes a quarter gauge, as the snip below.

If anyone would like to test it, let me know and I will send a PDF. It has to be printed 100% accurate. A scale is printed on it to test it.

BeeSee: You have put together a very good and badly needed Canada perforation gauge. One of the problems with the Kiusalas Canada gauge has been the fact that many Large and Small Queen stamps have been found with gauge 12 perforations that are in between Kiusalas 12-65 and Kiusalas 12-66 which has stumbled many. This was written about in "Perforations of the Large Queen Stamps of Canada" by Stephen J. Menich, page 20. See: http://www.bnaps.org/hhl/TopicsDisp...p?issue=1830 This and other such similar issues have been dealt with this new perforation gauge since it covers not only kiusalas gauges but also those in between them.

ePerforationGauge looks cool, but my Windows 10 system won't run it, thinks it is a virus. Is there a more up to date version?
