I've got an average Danmark used collection, and I enjoy very much this country issues. But, I'm afraid, no "pearls" in my collection, jus normal stuff. I'm sharing SG#7, YT#8, the 4 S. from 1858-63. |

I plate bicolored, but know some generel stuff regarding most of the stamps from 1851 to 1933. if you have questions on anything, i'd love to try and help.. especially in the bicolored section, besides 4 and 8řre I should be able to pinpoint the print of any other value from the perf 14 * 13˝. |

Sorsh, I am infatuated with classic scandinavian stamps, especially swedish and from Denmark. I do not have a serious collection, but am working on that. I would love to learn about various danish stamps Here are my latest two stamps of early denmark, it would be nice to hear your expertise on them |

@Makanudo
this first is a 1864 4skilling, in danish they're called crown and scepter. it was made in 12 prints with a myriade of plateflaws and types. unlike the other values this does not come as lineperforated.
around 53 millions were printed.
the 2nd one appears to be a perf 12 3/4 watermark II large crown. normal frame, can't tell the date, can't tell the frame type from this picture.
so can't get close to a print.
either aren't expensive, and not in very good condition.
if you like the early danish stamps, they're not really that expensive to get a hold off. |

@Sorsh Thank you for the detailed info. I did manage to generALY clasify them, but still didnt learn how to detect watermark. I buy my stamps only locally, never online, so I buy what I run into and regardless of condition. This naturally means that my choice is limited. I am not bothered too much by the value, but my aim is to complete a nice collection. |

Makanudo, if any of your dealers specialize in stamps, maybe they can sell you watermark fluid and a black tray to use with it. A little fluid is all that's needed to wet the stamp, and it evaporates quickly. We often use Ronsonol lighter fluid here which nowadays is naptha. You still need something very dark for background, like a black glass ashtray.
Most Scandinavian watermarks can be seen holding the stamp to a light. Sweden has a couple that are not very easy to see or tell apart that way. |

Quote: Most Scandinavian watermarks can be seen holding the stamp to a light. pretty much all norwegian watermarks are a pain to see some even difficult to see with fluid. many swedish stamps are also difficult. danish stamps are only troublesome when a cancel is in the way, but fluid will make it clear. |

Yes, excuse my mistake. I was only thinking of the older/oldest stamps we're seeing here. |

We have only one dealer here and he deals only in new serbian stamps. Most of the trade here is inter - collectors. |

@HY-Brasil
that makes less sense then since many of the older/oldest scandinavian stamps aren't watermarked.. if you only refer to the ones we're seeing then you're referring to danish stamps only? - then you're correct.
the early icelandic stamps were printed in denmark so, same paper, same watermark.

or maybe you just dislike to be corrected?
The goal is to avoid misunderstandings, as this thread is a learningexperience the goal should be to provide clear and correct information?
your information is confusing me, and there's a good chance others are too.
maybe it's a language barrier thing |
