Just in case anyone is interested, there were 1,464,588,750 two cent Columbians issued, so finding lots of varieties will be both easy and time consuming. |

Mike,
Thanks for showing the nice images! The partial broken frame line is really neat! |

Is this what everyone's referring to as a "broken frame" variety? If so, I have a few, so they must be relatively common. Close up of "broken frame" area in question: |

wt1,
Yes, that's the broken frame line. It is fairly common. I used to have a dozen or so that I sold years ago. |

Thanks for confirming that I did identify a "broken frame line" variety.
I happened to notice in the Scott Specialized Catalog (2013) that the "Broken Frame Line" variety is listed at a whopping $0.45 used value (as compared to $0.30 for the full framed #231). Not exactly a rarity, but still an interesting variety that I never checked out in any detail before reading this thread. |

revcollector,
Thanks a lot for the re-entries link! I've never seen that page before, and it helps clarify re-entry vs the slip transfer (as my March 27 images showed) on Scott #231. The images of re-entries on the other stamps on the web page have me wanting to look closer at the issues I have in my collection. |

Postage double transfers tend to be smaller than revenue double transfers, so a closer examination is often necessary. Another postage issue with a fair amount of interesting double transfers is the Hudson-Fulton stamps of 1909, both the perf and imperf versions. Some really nice ones there. |

Quote: there were 1,464,588,750 two cent Columbians issued Yeah, lots and lots of stamps to go through. I'm still hoping that someone will show us a Recut Frame Line, or a Cracked Plate version. I love the doubling on the "PP" that Mike 33 showed us earlier. Good hunting everyone! |

Here's an interesting piece of trivia: It cost the post office only 17 cents for every 1000 Columbian stamps printed! (Note last sentence in excerpt below): |

I love this thread! This is what stamp collecting is all about. Thanks for all the great scans everyone. I'm going to start looking through the shoe box full of 231's I've acquired over the years. That should keep my out of trouble for awhile. I think I've separated out the broken hats already but that is all, Thanks again. |

As I stated in the original post, I obtained a LOT of these broken hat stamps. Not all the best of shape, but here is the overall sheet. Blowups of interesting individuals to follow: |
