Canada 553 Paul Kane Colour Variation

Has anyone encountered this colour variation before? The left block appears reddish, while the right one has a bit more green tint in it.

Gilles, I bought a whole bunch of those stamps
when they came out and still have matched Imprint
corner blocks.
There is basically no colour difference in any of them.

Yours look like field stock which were without the Imprints,
maybe there where different print runs causing colour
variations.

The only thing interesting for the Kane issue is ofcourse the well
known "stroke on tepee" variety which I bet every Canadian stamp collector has copies of.

I meant that your Upper Left corner block on the right looks like field stock which is noticeable due to the narrow selvage because the imprints were trimmed off by the printer.

I have not seen THAT much variation for the Kane issue, but have certainly seen major variances in the Krieghoff issue.

Both of those were printed offset/litho by
the British American Bank Note Co.

In my opinion that printer never really the hang of printing
offset and when Ashton Potter got a contract from Canada Post
their print quality was far superior to BABN.

And the unlisted "Quiver of arrows".

I have seen colour variations on this stamp, but mostly in used copies (which could be the result of the environment/soaking, etc).

Yours are quite interesting, you should compare with others to see which shade is more common.

I also checked the ones posted on Archives Canada, and I can clearly see the 2 different colours. The single is the reddish shade, while the plate clock is the yellowish/greenish shade.
