Wednesday October 7 at 7 pm at the VGG 10 Summerhill Ave, Toronto. Robin will speak on History of the Unitrade Catalogue (Meet the Editor): A look at how the Unitrade Catalogue has evolved over the years, particularly the last 11 editions which Robin has produced. Thursday October 8 at 7.30 pm at the North Toronto Stamp Club, Yorkminster Park Baptist Church, 1585 Yonge Street, Toronto. Robin will speak on Lowe-Martin Serpentine Die Cutting - making some sense out of the nearly 5,000 unique specimens of coil stamps produced by Lowe-Martin for Canada Post since 2004. All attendees will receive a copy of Robin's 34 page document Lowe-Martin Serpentine Die Cutting and a die cut perforation gauge (5½ -10), both courtesy North Toronto Stamp Club. Kathy Hartley indicated that the Wednesday October 7 event at the VGG will be preceded by a book sale from 5.00 - 7.30 pm. A list of the books on offer will be circulated before the event by email to

Jimjung, I am not a Canada collector, but I am a coil collector. Do you know if the 34 page Lowe=Martin Die Cutting booklet is available by mail? And I would love to obtain a die cut perforation gauge. Do you know if either is available?

I think I'll attend the Wed, Oct 7th event at 5pm; 10 Summerhill. Thankfully, I'm only 2 km away... or 20 minutes away by subway/streetcar! ;)

If they are selling the new Duckworth books, I'll snag a copy. And the opportunity to use the "VSC6000" machine...how cool. I'm sure the experience will help me further with my adventures in LQ paper types.

Yes, the website shows that cash is acceptable as payment for the perf gauge, if you do not have equivalent mint Canadian postage stamps.

The intent of the perf gauge offer was to have it paid with postage to help cover the various study group mailing costs, but we recognize that USA or international residents may not have Canadian postage on hand.

No need to register for the presentation at the VGG - simply show up and don't be backward about introducing yourself. The library will be open all day and I will be there with the VSC6000 as well. Don't forget the book sale - there will be some valuable titles going out at very reasonable prices.
I will make sure that copies of Duckworth (and other VGG publications) are available for sale. I also expect that one of our Large Queen specialists will be there most of Wednesday so feel free to bring in material you may wish to discuss with him.
This should be another fun filled afternoon / evening at the VGG library and we look forward to meeting lots of "new" guests.

Hey everybody. We have enjoyed two wonderful philatelic evenings with Robin Harris.

Tuesday evening the West Toronto Machin Study Group had an audience of 32 members and guests to hear Robin discussing "Simplifying the Machins". A copy of his "online booklet" was printed and distributed to all attendees and everybody was treated to coffee, cake, cookies and even a pumpkin pie.

At the Greene Foundation Wednesday evening, 30+ guests enjoyed an opportunity to enhance their own libraries by attending the VGG Library Book Sale. Robin then entertained the group with the story and Powerpoint presentation outlining the history of the Unitrade catalogue. The presentation wrapped up with a lively discussion and Q&A session during which the audience was given the opportunity to provide input and suggestions to the editor.

Thursday evening, Robin will be speaking at the North Toronto Stamp Club on the subject of the Lowe Martin Serpentine Die Cut Perforations of the modern Canadian Coil stamps. I have read his notes (which will be distributed in the form of a handbook) and am amazed at his explanations of a field of philatelic study of which I was totally unaware. Great stuff and a great opportunity to learn something new.

For those who missed the booksale, there will be an additional opportunity starting at 5 pm (at the Greene Foundation). There are lots of good books remaining unsold and these are being re-priced to sell!!

I attended last evening's Robin Harris' presentation
regarding the changes and improvements to the
Unitrade Specialized Catalogue of Canadian Stamps
and really enjoyed every minute.
I remember when I bought the first Harris 2006 edition
and was so happy to see that Canadian stamp collectors
finally has a real specialized catalogue.
The surprising thing is that it got actually better,
year after year.
In this day and age not much gets better, especially
when you get to my age.

After the presentation I was shown the THE HARRY SUTHERLAND PHILATELIC LIBRARY
which is also located in the VGG building.
Wow, what an impressive collection of philatelic literature.
I felt like a kid in a candy store and I hope to
spend a lot of time there in the future.

In addition Mr Garfield Portch kindly gave me a demonstration
the famous Foster & Freeman Video Spectral Comparator,
VSC6000/HS.
Very impressive piece of equipment in philatelic forensic
science.

I want to thank Robin Harris, Kathy Hartley and Garfield Portch
for a great stamp evening and I hope to attend tonight's
lecture regarding the Lowe Martin Serpentine Die Cut Perforations of the modern Canadian Coil stamps

Robin Harris gave another great presentation last night.
This time at the North Toronto Stamp Club, where he
explained in detail what is presently known about
Serpentine Die Cutting.
I went in knowing basically nothing about this process
but I learned a lot and it was interesting.
In the next couple of days I'll get out my new die cutting perf
gauge and check all my Lowe-Martin coils.

I didn't take a count but there must have been at least 60 guests
attending, perhaps even more.
So many in fact that I believe there weren't enough of the documents
nor die cut perforation gauges for all the guests.
