That would be an excellent idea firstfrog2013, but as I have said to get that you need information, and that is the roadblock every one will encounter unless we can develop a process to gather that information...Funny, the last 5 years I was with a Telecommunication Giant in Canada my job was "Process management", writing processes and making sure it worked, that is why I think the way I do..Bad or good....

Definitely not a one man job but the right team..... wonder if it will happen in our lifetime.The need is there, the market however small is there,the information is out there.Time, money, and the drive to get it done.

No doubt firstfrog2013 it is a labour intensive process..It would be beneficial to the stamp world to be able to gather information on...

1-How many stamps of one type still exist.
2-How many are in what form (e.g.mint, used, blocks, covers, etc.)
3-Condition.
4-How many are perfins.

I think collecting data on pre 1940 stamps only would be better than post 1940 stamps...It would be easier collecting that data on this web site (only if ALL stamp owners input their information)..Now there are probably lots of stamp owners out there that DO NOT belong to the stampcommunity website that would be almost impossible to gather information from...So do I think this dream can be achieved..?..Yes, BUT...???

No, not necessarily. It IS definitely rare, but, as far as the market goes, popularity seems to be the driving point, I think? Maybe I worded my last posting wrong?

Off the top of my head, I can't think of any particular issue but, if the interest is not there, then I can't see that particular stamp being so expensive. Maybe, what I should be aiming at are issues greater in quantity, but still low compared to other stamp issues but fewer collectors interested.

Maybe what I should in turn be asking is - does the price determine the interest, or is it the quantity available?? Not sure how to word this lol.

Everyone is missing my point..I don't really care about stamp costs...I collect, not sell....I am concerned about how many of what stamps survived over the years...Taking an example, my Scott #137 imperf king...25,000 issued...Do you or anyone know how many still exist...NO..That is my concern my good friend (and I mean that Bujutsu )

Gotcha wert.That is a tall order for sure.As an avid flyspecker I'm sure you get my point as well.There are numerous constant varieties that seem to be ignored as well as other information we as collectors should not have to spend endless hours searching for.The specialist catalog for U.S. issues is just so much more complete than the product we use.Am I jealous probably.Is it a good product absolutely could it be better resounding YES !

Hi Jogil, Sure wish I lived there in Toronto. I stopped by the Greene Foundation on my trip to ORAPEX and had a great time. We even found a new re-entry on a proof sheet of 120 1/2d, Unitrade #8, at position 26. A fellow collector was sharing some proof sheets he had. I have since acquired a proof position block of 6 and a used pair with the re-entry. I will have to get these written up and published. I really enjoyed seeing Toronto it is quite a city.

I wish they would consider streaming that lecture online -- 850 miles is a bit too far for me to drive

Hello all.
If you are planning to attend the presentation at the Greene Foundation on Wednesday (Oct 7) think about arriving in the afternoon. You will be welcomed as a visitor to the library and you will find that there is going to be a sale of books (starting at 5 pm) that are excess to our library needs. This will provide a great opportunity to obtain copies of great reference books at bargain prices.
Visitors can also bring material to examine using the VSC6000 or to compare with the VGG reference collection.
