Hi guys..And here is a sample conparison of 2 Scott #195's...This is why I get frustrated with the colouring system of stamps..Look at these two Scotts...Does the one on the right really look green, and look at the colour of the paper...

Yes..There are programs (software) that can aid and assist stamp collectors..Just to double post to this tread..51studebaker don't beat me up again..haha..Here is a FREE not powerful program that can help see pixely what was under a heavy cancellation..There are many, many FREE open source software that we the collector have at our feet if we just want to use them..see picture below.

I might bring these two examples of stamps to the lady when I buy my paint..She has a colour sampling software..Just to see what two different colours they really are.

wert, they are clearly different paper types. Notice how the image shows through on the one. The paper is whiter as well. This will affect the colour of the stamp (as will the ink of course).

These are the kinds of things that could certainly benefit from specialist study. Some stamp issues have not received as much study as others.

3Dadeo...I am at a lost with the term "double paper"...Is that what the one on the left is or is it just thicker..??

This paper is thicker than the other. Sheets of paper used for printing, even at this point in stamp history, were not always the exact same thickness/type, or from the same manufacturer.

I believe the term "double paper" refers to some rare cases where a stamp sheet was repaired before (usually) printing to hold it together. Where the papers overlap (the regular sheet on top and a piece of paper used to do the repair underneath) and are attached/glued together, the stamp then gets printed and sold on this "double paper".

There are examples of some of the Admirals and a few other stamps that have been found in this state. I assume you would need a certificate to ensure it is genuine.

INK PAD IMPRESSION SYSTEM: (Morley Bright). This requires you to place your stamp underneath a sealed ink pad, when pressure is applied, either by thumb or roller (depending on type used) this should leave a clear impression of the watermark on the ink pad. This method is sometimes useful for seeing watermarks of stamps while they are still on covers.

Speaking of scary. I had a very early version of Morley Bright watermark detector where you placed a stamp on a glass plate and put a piece of thin clear pliable film over the stamp. They furnished two small tubes of ink (one that would dry and one that didn't). A thin line of ink was applied close to one side of the stamp on the clear film. Then you used a small plastic spreader with a very smooth edge to drag the ink across the stamp with slight pressure applied. The system worked and revealed the watermarks well. If you used the non-drying ink it could be messy so you had to handle things carefully. The drying ink made terrific copies of the watermark which could be cut out of the film and mounted in your album with the stamp. I still have these with my LQ watermarked stamps. Unfortunately this kit is no longer available and I don't know where one can get additional supplies for it. My father got an early form of the ink pad version but it didn't work well, so I guess they have improved it. My father's looked nothing like the one in Werts' post.

Hi Robin...Hope you are watching..Got a question for you and Unitrade...Why doe=sent You/Unitrade consider any form of stamp classification..Below is from another catalog that includes stamps that are part of a picture depicting the stamp or Vs verse..Please see the picture below..I have three of these pictures with stamp in them..Thanks for any reply.

Those prints are privately produced. It would be impossible to know what has been made (I've made a couple of my own; should they be listed?).

This is like the Picture Postage(tm) problem of not knowing what exists.

(With that said, the Unitrade does not list the Canada Post-produced prints either.)
