In the 1988 album I found a coil pair of the very rare 37c parliament on Roland paper, Unitrade 1194i. As far as I know, all known copies originated from the album, but not all albums have it. Some have 1194, the common version on Peterborough paper. |

Beesee Thanks for your response. How do you tell the difference between the 2 paper types? |

I have two (2) 1988 Souvenir Collections. One is opened with the stamps inserted into their respective mounts and the other is still in shrink wrap. I am now tempted to open the sealed one to check for the Roland Paper version. But like Alberta Stamper, I am not 100% confident in determining which is Roland paper and which is Peterborough paper. How can you tell? |

I haven't checked my other Collection Albums, yet; but, while using an extra 2006 version (sans stamps) for used stamps, I was disappointed to discover the stories about each stamp were NOT in chronological order of issue. Also, it appears some of the stamps (eg 1691 & 1692 {falcon & pony} as well as 2135-9 {flag over scenery}) were actually issued in Dec 2005 (according to Unitrade Catalog). They may have been re-issued in 2006, but I couldn't find a reference to that. Has anybody else found a similar situation with other years? |

BC, one way I found easy to identify is checking against a common mammals series Killer whales, 57c. It is in the 1988 collection, and because the Harrison version only started in late Sept 88, probabilities of what is in the album is high that it is on Rolland paper. The 43c Lynx from that series only came in "Harisson " paper, so the difference are obvious |

Thanks for those great scans BC, just shows again that one pic is worth a 1000 words.
BTW did you specifically use light bluish background to show up the different papers instead of black ? |

I actually used a white background. It just came out light blue. I originally did it on black, and the differences were less obvious. |

I agree in that a black background for some reason sometimes does not bring out the correct colour in the scan.
In some cases I use a creamy beige coloured paper for background.

Thanks for the pictures and info. 1988 is one of a few that I am missing. |
