That's right, Who Is P. M. Wolsieffer?
Not "Who is John Galt?"
If you google or wiki this you're cheating!
Does anyone know without looking?

Quote: no google, huh...
is it a prime minister?
No, he's a philatelist and in the APS Hall Of Fame, elected in 1941. But what is his claim to fame... of some sort, anyway? |

I would be surprised if any one would know that but it is really a very simple thing that he came up with, very common today. |

Well, it's been 24 hours and everyone who was going to take a look at this probably has. Thanks to those who googled him and didn't tell, it gave others the chance to look into it themselves. Here's one of his covers, claiming his fame: And here's a link to his place in the APS Hall of Fame: http://www.stamps.org/Almanac/alm_H...ame_1941.htm |

I knew this! I also have a PMW envelope touting the same corner card. If you wish to learn more, P.M. also patented his approval card (actually a page as a stock book) in 1896. This can be found as a google patents search and is a fun philatelic read. http://www.google.com/patents/US577998An approval card of his should have a nominal value to it. They are probably very scarce! The area of philatelic inventions and related ephemera would be a fascinating and challenging area to collect and exhibit. |

Well I learned something new today, I had no idea who he was or what his claim to fame was. Thanks for sharing this. |

According to Wiki link, he (Philip Mathias Wolsieffer) also claimed fame for inventing not just the approval card, but the stock book page as well: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philip...s_WolsiefferQuote: Wolsieffer was known for his invention of philatelic storage materials, such as the stock page (a slotted manila page used to temporarily store postage stamps) and the approval card, (a card with slots used to hold stamps), both of which he claimed to have invented. |
