I went to the stamp show in Bellefonte, PA held at the APS Match Factory today. It was a 3 hour drive to/from and spent about 3 hours there. It's the 1st time I have been to the APS even though I've been a member for 30 years. I don't know what I was expecting and I can't say I was disappointed. I quickly checked out the APRL and considering that it's all stamp related it was impressive.

I found several curls, all the "on the shoulder" variety, including a pair. But, my purchase of the day has to be this one.

The dealer had 3 to pick from and I had to us my card! I usually have enough cash so I don't have to do that. My wife is going to go thru the roof if she finds out. But not really.

A dealer I got some curls from had Lighthouse LCD-MacroCam and demonstrated it for me. I had to get one and I'll tell about it after I figure out how to use it.

On a sad note I witnessed an elderly woman come in with a dolly of material which was her late husbands stamp collection. Books, albums, magazines everything. She was hoping to sell it and had no idea of its contents or value. I truly hope that all of us have left documentation as to what's in our collections, its approximate value, special items and how to dispose of it. JMO.

I'm not a US stamp collector. I collect mostly Europe and South America. I tried to find your stamp in Scott. I think it's the A5 design but there is no perf. Next time you post a stamp please give the Scott number. And remember it's not how much you spend, it's how deep is the pocket. I heard you bid on the British Guiana stamp? Better strap your wife on a chair. Great post. Daniel

It's a very nice stamp to me. The whole set in f-vf is $12 532. Now that's major league for me. How would you grade this stamp? From the scan it looks like f-vf and I love it. Congratulation. Daniel

Daniel,

Scott 40 is a reprint and was never valid as postage. It was basically a souvenir stamp handed out during the 1876 Centennial celebration in Philadelphia. I'm not positive if they were sold or just given away, but I think sold. It has all the features of the 1851/57 one cent Type I (Scott 5/18) issues except it's a perf 12 not 15.5. The image is clean and not touched by the perfs, close at top. When the plate was laid out, enough room between stamps was provided for the perforations. Was only printed using Plate 12.

I put the stamp at VF with perhaps reasons why it may not be. The white paper of the stamp is not as white as I would have wanted. In other words, it's not PO fresh. But that has little to do with grading. Aother reason it may not be VF is the top, not a lot of room between the perfs and the image.

I now have examples of all the one cent Franklins on or off cover except the 5 & 6 and I don't see me spending that kind of money to get them either.

Finally got a chance to check out my new toy. The LCD MacroCam works great. It has already paid for itself by allowing my to identify 6 misidentified stamps in my own collection! I have a couple hundred #24s and for a test of the item I checked them all again. I found another curl, 4 type Va and a #22. The 22 has a heavy cancel, the curl is nearly obscured by its cancel and I should have spotted the Va's in the 1st place.

I'm a happy camper and would recommend this item for anyone that's a flyspeck hunter.
