The Stanislaw Wyspianski Theatre of Silesia, Katowice was opened in 1907 from Germans. After restoration of Silesia to Poland, in October 1922 it became the Polish Theatre of Katowice.
Jean Marie Lucien Pierre Anouilh (1910-1987) was a French dramatist whose work ranged from high drama to absurdist farce. Pierre Corneille (1606-1684) was a French tragedian whose best known play is Le Cid, a tragicomedy in five acts about the career of the legendary medieval Spanish warrior. Happy Birthday to Maurice Polydore Marie Bernard Maeterlinck (1862-1949), a Belgian playwright, poet, and essayist who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1911 "in appreciation of his many-sided literary activities, and especially of his dramatic works..." The professional theatre Estonia was founded in 1906. Initially playing mainly drama, the theatre gradually came to its first music productions: "Mam`zelle Nitouche" being the first operetta in 1907 and "Das Nachtlager in Granada" the first opera in 1908. The first ballet "Coppelia" was staged in 1922 and in 1928 the first Estonian opera "Vikerlased". The house was destroyed during WWII and was reopened in 1947. (from Eesti post)
Performance of the play Cousin of Saaremaa by Lydia Koidula to mark the 5th anniversary of the Vanemuine musical and theatrical society of Tartu on 6 and 7 July 1870 are regarded as the founding of the Estonian national theatre and of the Vanemuine Theatre. In its 125 years of activity Vanemuine (named after the mythical Estonian God of Song) has produced many notable directors, actors and musicians, staging drama, musical performances and ballet. In 1906 the theatre acquired professional status, marking it with the opening night on 26 August in a Nordic art nouveau house (designed by Finnish architect Armas Elias Lindgren) inaugurated the previous day. Dina Galli (1877-1951) was an Italian stage actress known for her comic roles, but she also appeared in fourteen films during her career. The Théâtre du peuple is a theater located in Bussang, France, built in 1895 by French playwright and poet Maurice "Padre" Pottecher (1867-1960).
