Gábor Egressy (1808-1866) was a Hungarian stage actor noted for bringing the dramas of William Shakespeare to the Hungarian stage in the Hungarian language. Here is an image of a stamp featuring a portrait of the actor and depicting the National Theater in Budapest, designed by Hungarian artist Ferenc Bokros (1891-1974), printed by photogravure, and issued by Hungary on September 18, 1962 to commemorate the theater's 125th anniversary, Scott No. 1460, plus an image of a lithograph portrait of Gábor Egressy, with his autograph.

Happy Birthday to Carlo Osvaldo Goldoni (1707-1793), an Italian playwright and librettist from the Republic of Venice best known for his many popular comedies. Here is an image of a stamp featuring a portrait of Goldoni, printed by photogravure, and issued by Bulgaria on December 30, 1957 to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the playwright's birth, Scott No. 1000, plus an image of a painted portrait of Carlo Goldoni in 1750. Bonus: Signature.

Alexandre-Pierre Georges "Sacha" Guitry (1885-1957) was a French stage actor, film actor, director, screenwriter, and playwright of the Boulevard theatre. Here is an image of a stamp honoring Sacha Guitry, designed by French artist Pierrette Lambert (1928- ), engraved by Georges Bétemps (1921-1992), and issued by Monaco on November 7, 1985, Scott No. 1496, plus an image of Sacha Guitry in his 1937 comedy film "The Pearls of the Crown." Here is an image of a stamp featuring a portrait of French dramatist Jean Racine (1639-1699), designed by André Spitz (1883-1977) after a portrait of the playwright by French painter Jean-Baptiste Santerre (1651-1717), engraved by Achille Ouvré (1872-1951), and issued by France on July 4, 1949 to commemorate 250th anniversary of Racine's death, Scott No. 629, Y&T No. 848, plus an image of Santerre's painting of Jean Racine.

Happy Birthday to Austrian dramatist and author Arthur Schnitzler (1862-1931) whose works were often controversial in their day both for their frank description of sexuality and for their strong stand against anti-Semitism. Here is an image of a stamp featuring a portrait of Schnitzler, designed by Otto Zeiller (1913-1988), combined engraved by Wolfgang Seidel (1946- ) and photogravure, and issued by Austria on May 15, 1987 to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the playwright's birth, Scott No. 1396, plus an image of a photograph of Arthur Schnitzler.

Guan Hanqing, known as the "Old Man of the Studio," was a notable Chinese playwright and poet during the Yuan Dynasty. Here is an image of a stamp featuring a portrait of the dramatist, designed by Vasili Vasilievich Zavialov (1906-1972), and issued by Russia (USSR) on December 5, 1958 to commemorate the 700th anniversary of Guan Hanqing's theatrical work, Scott No. 2146, Zagorski No. 2172, plus an image of the original Chinese work of art which was the model for this stamp's design.

As a follow up to my previous post above, here are images of the three stamps in a set honoring Chinese playwright Guan Hanqing (illustrating, respectively, a scene from his play The Butterfly Dream, a portrait of the playwright, and a scene from his play The Riverside Pavilion), engraved and printed on yellow paper, and issued by China (People's Republic) on June 20, 1958, Scott Nos. 355-57.

Here is an image of a stamp featuring portraits of Bulgarian actress and theater director Zlatina Nedeva (1878-1941), in and out of costume, printed by lithography, and issued by Bulgaria on December 8, 1947 as one of a set of eleven stamps commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Bulgarian National Theater, Scott No. 597, plus an image of a publicity photo of Zlatina Nedeva.
