Ferdinand Raimund was an Austrian actor and dramatist. His best works Bauer als Millionär (Farmer as a millionaire), Der Alpenkönig und der Menschenfeind (The King of the Alps) and Der Verschwender (The Spendthrift) are still frequently performed in Austria today. The Raimund Theater in Vienna is named after him.

Abraham Goldfaden (1840-1908) put on the first play improvised in Yiddish in romanian town Iasi in 1876 and became the founder of the modern Jewish theater. In 30 thirty years Goldfaden wrote more than 50 plays, which he directed, set to music and produced.
Vera Fyodorovna Komissarzhevskaya (1864-1910) was one of the most celebrated actresses and theater managers of the late Russian Empire.
