An anonymous person mailed a nice THANK YOU card to us for our Christmas lights, but the Marker Monkey had to ruin it...

That's awful! That looks like a postmark you specifically sent off for. Way to ruin a good cover.

Never in the course of human events have so many stamps been ruined by so few ... okay, overdoing it, but color me

Cheers,

/s/ ikeyPikey (who is disappointed that the sender, a long-established supplies dealer, does not have a cooperating postal clerk who will postmark their packages or, better yet, a Mailer's Postmark Permit)

I guess 'marker monkeys' are about as old as our hobby.

If an envelope has stamps all over it then a machine probably can't handle it rapidly and the post worker can cancel the letters faster with one sweep of a pen rather than a thump thump thump of a hand held canceller. The person in the sorting office is dealing with mail sorting and delivery not Philately. That doesn't seem to apply to Coinsearchers example.

The Coinsearcher83 and Nells250 posts indicate bad attitudes by the defacers; the stamps which were obviously cancelled were rendered worthless to the collectors.

The Post Office's Revenue Protection Section is still active. I got this one in the mail yesterday. You gotta give 'em credit, they do a thorough job!

Glad I don't collect U.S. anymore.

This was delivered to me yesterday. Sorry for the bad picture. It is the 3649g – 2002 37c Masters of American Photography: Edward Steichen and 3649h – 2002 37c Masters of American Photography: Alfred Stieglitz stamps.
