So today was a PTO day, due to nursing an injury. Since I couldn't move around much I got all my stamp stuff out an went to work. Fact: I HATE trimming and cutting stamp mounts. The longer I worked on my Israel tabs, the more it aggravated me. I finally shifted to working on my Haiti collection, which I simply hinge. So I've decided. I'm going to buy hingeless albums. And I'm sticking to it until my wife gets home and I have to tell her the price. No questions. No insightful observations. Just a bit of a frustrated rant about cutting mounts.

well, since a value should be placed on enjoying the hobby - I think you determined the value (er, price)! |

I hate mounts too, most particularly for their reflective surface and the way they knock back the richness of the printed stamp image somewhat. Now I buy mostly fine used and MLH I have switched back to hinges.

I sympathise, I really do. I keep my stamps in Prinz sheets, and my nightmare is to get a new stamp with an early catalogue number which means I have to re-arrange everything. Sometimes 10 pages or more. Drives me mad. |

Well, if you buy hingeless albums, you might end up trimming your stamps to fit the "standard" mounts. Kirk |

ecmorgan, I know about asking the "Boss" for money, so I'll send you some lick-type hinges. Gary |

Well I mentioned the hingeless albums to my wife. Her response was one question. "Don't you have 3 children in private school?"
Back to trimming and cutting I guess. |

I prefer hingeless stamp albums especially those that already have the stamps laid out for the collector. I just close my eyes when I click the "Buy Item" button when I purchase them online! |

ecmorgan - don't give up hope! There are always deals to be had on ebay, et al. Used hingeless albums come up for auction daily - at a fraction of retail prices - so keep an eye open. I'd recommend asking this forum their opinions on the best hingeless Israel album (or w/e country you want to convert to hingless) and then set a budget. I have 50+ hingeless albums (nearly 20 German "Lighthouse" albums alone) and only one of them was purchased new. The rest were purchased off ebay for less than $50/ea over the past several years. Best of luck! Brian |

Brian, I do keep an eye on the ebay auctions and will likely make my purchase there. The tougher decision for me is which one should I go with....I don't want to mix and match. Decisions decisions. And I have to say, my wife is pretty good about stamp spending. I guess there are worse things. |
