On ebay I bought an item that was described as Pine Creek Pa. which was a place I used go with my family and historical to our part of the state during the logging boon but this morning I looked at my item and noticed that the C.D.S. read PINE GROVE not PINE CREEK so I wrote the seller. I've done good business with this gentleman before and never had any issues. (oldpaperchaser) Here is the item in question: and auction link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/37111042014....m1423.l2649Here is what I just wrote to him: Quote: Hello, I just won your Auction for this item with the Pine Creek postmark but my wife pointed out that the CDS reads PINE GROVE not PINE CREEK. Do you have any Jersey Shore, lock Haven or even Williamsport, Pa. items for close to my winning bid we could exchange? I could pay more for a good item but if not I'll accept my item after all it was my fault but in my defense your item was not as described. I also collect B.O.B. items (revenue stamps on and off documents, RPPC's .. I just wanted to make you aware of this. Thank you so much for the time to read this and I look forward to a reply. -Jeff Do you think I done the right thing? After all I should have looked closer at the item to begin with...Caveat emptor I suppose right? What do you think I should do from this point? I already paid for it too. He hasn't written me back but that's to be expected at this point because this JUST happened a few moments ago but I'll post the response if need be.

Honest listing mistake on his part. Honest shopping mistake on your part. If the seller is smart and does not have anything on your wantlist, he will simply refund your payment and file with ebay to get his fees back. ALWAYS closely scrutinize any pictures and compare to the written description. But hey, it happens. |

I think you did the right thing. Give him a bit of time to respond. People make mistakes, but give them a chance to make amends. |

I think you are being more than fair. Notwithstanding what was shown in the image, if it was described wrong, and you honestly bid for it on the basis of the verbal description, I think you would have a reasonable case for a refund under ebay policy. But if the seller accepts your counter offer, and you are satisfied, then everybody goes away happy. That's the best outcome. |

I thought so too but then last night it showed up in my mail box. Now what? Should I just suck it up and keep it, ya' know? - lesson learned type of thing? Too early for me to think clearly I'll ponder on this a little bit but I would really like a little input. |

Interesting situation. It is "significantly not as described," so you could return it, absolutely. However, you have already indicated that you will not do this. If it were me, I would just keep it, and resolve to check listings more closely in the future! Because of the low dollar amount we are talking about here, is it worth your while to return it, especially after you already wrote the seller that you would not?! Did the seller get back with you? If not, why not? Mistakes like this happen all the time, and I would probably chalk it up to "it isn't worth the trouble" at this point. Just my opinion. John |

All this drama for a grand total of $5.31? Heck, I make bidding mistakes or gambles like that all the time. Also, consider that you'll be paying return postage, making the net even less. Life's too short. |

Yeah, you know I believe that you're exactly right! plus, I really dig the Maltese type cancel anyway. I'll just keep it. Thank you though for cheering me up a bit about it.
Also to clarify I never sad I wouldn't send it back but was showing him that I'm not a bad fellow with any nefarious schemes and such. Yeah, "it's all good" plus it arrived here super duper fast! -Jeff |

I'm sorry, Jeff - I misunderstood you. I took the above extract from your communication with the seller to mean that you would not return it... John |

Yes, you did misunderstand me but more-so my intention. I said that I would keep it if no other resolution could be met. |
