Hi Rolle

I thought these stamps commemorating Tove Jansson's 100th anniversary might be of interest. And maybe she would be good as a "Thomasina of Finnland" to go with your other post.

Terry

Hi Rolle,

If you can get onto 'BBC iPlayer' via Google search on your computer, click on 'categories' on the top menu bar, then select 'arts', then scroll down to "Moominland Tales: The Life of Tove Jansson" and you should be able to watch the programme on your computer. You should be able to download it in HD format for 30 days or so.

The Moomin characters have a unique charm. I can see why the japanese like them.

Enjoy
Terry

Saying which reminded me of the Japanese animation movie, "Porco Rosso" by Hayao Miyazaki of Studio Ghibli. This drawn animation film is just stunning. Wonderful imagery, and a great story. If you are taken by the grace and dynamic of a proper aeroplane in flight you will love this movie. A mix of some of the flying sequences here......

The film is available dubbed in English.

Enjoy

Tove Marika Jansson (1914 - 2001)

A Swedish-born Finnish writer, painter and cartoonist, she is best known as the creator of the Moomins.
She wrote the first Moomin novel, Moomin and the Great Flood, in 1945.

(because I collect women and their works on stamps, the Moomins and its author Tove Jansson, are part of my collection).

Tove Jansson's mother Signe Hammarsten-Jansson was one of the worlds's most important postage stamp artists. She made totally 173 stamps for Finland, mainly during the 1940-ies. Tove's brother Lars Jansson who assisted with the creating and marketing of the comic strips was also a prominent philatelist. The Moomin companies are now run by Lars' daughter
