RS118P4 is a plate proof of the issued design. The essay looks like this.

This is my favorite M&M essay. I think it is more attractive than the issued stamp.

I love that Laird's Bloom of Youth essay, SPQR! Here's my RT15:

Several nice stamps in these two auction lots. I was primarily after the RS34, RO94, RO86. They weren't cheap but I was happy to win them!

Thanks Bart. I am amazed at your encyclopedic knowledge. I had no idea the RS35c was so scarce, considering it only catalogs $11 or so. There were 25 million printed of the pink and watermarked papers per the Boston book, but there's not a breakout between the two types. Speaking of the Boston book, the other item I received in the mail today was a soft-cover first edition of it. See the scan of the cover below. The pages a beautiful shape, with deckle edge, but the cover and binding is quite worn. It is not falling apart at all but if I handle it too much it will. Would you take it to a bookbinder to have a hard cover with new binding put on it? I found it on Half.com for $13 so I'm not into it much. Just like everyone, I have the pdf, but I just like real books

looking closer, no deckle edges, just rough. But the stock is a very nice laid paper.

OK, since the RS10P has been shown, and I see that the blue color is a dark blue, I have a question about my two RS9 stamps. I believe the left one is the Blue RS9b (silk paper), and the right one is the Ultramarine RS9u (old paper). Opinions?

Thank you, revcollector, for your input. I know you have much experience with these, so I value your opinion.

I was basing the color comparison to the R. H. White Color plate for the Scott 63 (1c 1851). On the color plate, the blue RS9 appears close to the Scott 63 dark blue, and the RS9 that I see as ultramarine appears close to the 63 ultramarine. The ultramarine doesn't appear to be a faded blue to me or a shade of the blue, but I am not a color expert, and don't have spectroscope or other color analysis capability at hand.

I know that a scan viewed on a computer screen has limited color determinacy, but was hoping the side-by-side comparison has some usefulness. Is there a reference color code that could be used for comparison?

December was a busy month for Match & Medicine auctions. Thought I would share my recent acquisitions as well. RO22u, RO59e, RO61b, RO66a, and these purchased separate, RO76a, RO134d.
I normally expect to find most with thins, but the first 4 were sound in regards to thins, as are the other two. Some have staining, and small perf issues, but overall, I was pleased with the stamps.
