within a world collection I am breaking down within Great Britain there are lots of gutter pairs from late 70s thru the 80s. for what ever reason they have 2 sets of almost all commemeratives. some have traffic lights but not many. Are these still popular or just worth breaking down into individual sets? plan is to sell to club members or online down the road. am just a US collector so learning some aspects of the world with this collection.

thank you for your time and guidance on this subject.
Respectfully,
Richard.

Some of the earlier traffic light gutter pairs would be worth a very large premium... 1970's especially. All very collectable.
If you could post the issues you have in gutter pairs or T/L gutter pairs it would help with the assessment of rarity/worth.

Colonelrklink, as we have said so often, do not ever destroy something unless you really want to. Almost anything you run into as far as stamps is concerned is collectible, and if you separate gutter pairs there is no way you can ever put them back together.

Peter I concur with you in so many ways, but I have seen a dealer break down a set of gutter pairs for a person, we all have seen plate blocks broken down for singles. I understand the importance of keeping things together. But if there is such an abundance of material out there that a dealer will break up a GP or Plate block to re stock singels or sell a set, than it at least informs me that either there is plenty of material to go around such as US plateblocks 4c and on for the most part. I just am wondering if GP are like that also. I have ordered a SG concise catalogu for reference material to aid in my learning. I just thought I would ask about Gutter pairs. I guess I am the only one out here that would break down a plate block of common postage stamps to use as postage. Guess I have lots to still learn.

thank you for your wisdom and guidance

Looks like you have missed out on the big money Traffic light gutter pairs. Up to around 1975 they could command a very big premium. Your pairs seem to start around 1976... I won't go thru all the pairs but just give a reasonable average assessment as the premium tails off as the years progress....

M = mint stamp price

So, on average, 1 plain gutter pair = 2M + around $0.50
1 traffic light gutter pair = 2M + $4 - $8

Pre-1976 the T/L pairs would get up to $100 premium... for example
1973 Royal Wedding set of two mint = £1 UK
gutter pairs (four stamps) = £2.75 UK
T/L gutter pairs = £110UK

If you are selling your plain gutters then you need a buyer who needs two sets with a gutter bringing you only around 50 cents on average above the price of two mint sets.

Your traffic light gutter pairs would however bring in perhaps $6 - $12 above a price for a single set.
