Many years ago, another collector asked me to keep my eye out for a #702 with a precancel.
I recently found this one in my collection, and I am wondering if it is a rare find.

A precancel on #702 may be more desirable than some, but hardly "rare". I just checked sold ebay listings and a couple of different precancels on #702 sold for between $1.50 and $2.25.

Someone with a Precancel Catalog may be able to give you more information, as sometimes the rarity factor increases based upon the specific precancel location rather than in the stamp itself.

It's certainly collectible, but I doubt it is all that valuable, especially with a precancel from such a large city such as Philadelphia.

This Philadelphia precancel with upper and lower case letters is hard to identify conclusively. There are 3 or 4 different ones all very similar. They all book for between 0.50 and 1.00 USD so not valuable. RedCross precancels are uncommon [for example, only 9 different types are listed in my catalog of Alabama precancels], but usually sell around the prices wt1 mentioned.

Don't mean to be a downer, but are you sure that's a precancel? Looks to me like it could be a box cancel.

I"ve been known to confuse precancels and box cancels before.
