Two of the 16 pictures of these George Washington stamps have been altered.
The fine print!: You may want to read all the way to the bottom!

The first 6 members, with 50 Quality Posts or more, to email me with a picture of the correct 2 stamps will have their names put into my cowboy hat, except for the person who not only finds the 2 altered stamp pictures but who also best describes the alterations. They win the Grand Prize!
Grand prize to be announced!
.?

First Draw will win the pictured Canal Zone booklet of 12 3c stamps, 2 panes each of 6 stamps with Maj. Gen. George Washing Goethals adorning this rich deep violet(?) stamp, celebrating the 20th anniversary of the opening of the Panama canal. Scott # 117a Issued 1934, Aug,15. PERF 11. I used a different booklet to show the inside, so your booklet should be as sung-as-a-bug-in-a-rug!

2nd Draw wins the French coin as depicted!

3rd draw will get a beautiful, crisp CZ First Day of Issue cover. It's been in the same wrapper since I put it there in 1964.

4th draw will receive a 4 3/4 X 3 1/4 Glassine chucked full of US Mint Stamps!

5th draw gets a Large envelope with a whole bunch of uncancelled US Stamps![

Hints will be dropped from time to time.

Here's the first three:

1. The long line from the top of one of Geo's heads,
down partially thru his nose is not an alteration.
I think it's a plate scratch? Someone will hopefully tell us.

2. It is not that little speck on Geo's head. There is only one stamp with that.

3. One of the altered stamps is practically self evident,
however, the description of the alterations may be difficult.
The other altered stamp, to me, is quit difficult
to discover, however, the description of the alterations
should be fairly easy!

Good luck & have fun!

PS: Any and all info on these Washington stamps for us members will be greatly appreciated!

Questions:

Are the two stamps from the SAME line pair, or can they be located on different pairs?
Were they altered by YOU or did you notice the alteration that already existed on the stamps?

Sounds like fun ... I'm game.

Hi mudhut, It won't let you attach any pics to the message that e-mails you on this system.

I did the alterations. I was working with these stamps to upload as a little comparison study. I don't remember just what happened but when I was in 'Paint", (separating stamps from a whole scan, cropping, etc., The original was deleted and when I went to "save", well, I didn't do something right! So I worked with the pic left on paint. As I was doing that, I thought what an interesting contest this could be.

Hi Gar,

Thanks for that info.....I will check things out and let you and all
other members know what, if anything, can be done.

Perhaps someone who knows can help us out here?

You cannot attach anything through the SCF system. You would have to post your email address in this thread, or respond to each inquiry individually, and THEN they can send you a picture or other attachment. I don't know a workaround for this issue.

Hi DNA and thanks so much for for your submission!

Thank you also for your post here! Friendly & supportive.

Your analytical descriptions of the alterations is fantastic!

AND also the first submitted. Others forgot to add descriptions
of their chosen alterations.

...........................................................................NOTE.................................................................................

Hello to all you members participating in this contest!

I have found a fairly simple way for you to email me the
pictures of the two stamps with alterations, right there on SCF.

I do not want to post it here. Please email me thru SCF for instructions.
Also, for those of you who have submitted your entries already,
it doesn't say you can't submit more!

I will do my best to notify all members ASAP on the outcome of their entries.

Look hard & have fun!

John
