Tom
The ones I posted a link to went for £200 (MM $5 with tiny gum loss) and £660 (UMM $3). Don't know how this compares with auction prices in Canada. Meanwhile, in the cheap seats, my purchases were for accessories (albums, not handbags!).

Hi Tom, Don't get discouraged about collecting these. I am attaching images of my basic used and mint sets. Some aren't exactly the best copies centering wise but they make an attractive display even so. Note it would take several pages to also include all the re-entry varieties I have on these stamps. I have gotten these on a very modest budget. Some of them were bought as only items for that year. Bid what you can afford and you might find a bargain or two especially in the smaller less recognized auctions. The majority of my mint are never hinged with a few lightly hinged. watermark: Your socked on nose (SON) postmark on the $5.00 stamp (# 65) looks very interesting. |

The $2 roller cancelation appears to be "UNION ST. N" "TORONTO"
The CDS cancelation on the $5 is "TORONTO AU 19 05 CANADA" with slight double strike of CANADA.
I have a few better copies of some of the smudged or heavy cancelled examples but I left these in the collection as a few of these were passed down from my maternal Grandfather's collection. He did not have any of the high values in either set.

To Rileysan, yeah the albums were expensive and the annual pages get expensive but it sure does look pretty. I had to draw the line on the yearly supplements - too much money! I am down to one Jubilee left to acquire - the $4 #64. After that, maybe I'll work on some of the early imperfs ... |

GeoffHa, those prices are comparable. I am looking at about $400 CDN for each. I have seen them go for that price so I just have to be patient. |

Watermark, dagger in my heart. Those are awesome. I don't care about glue and hinging; I just want VF centering and unused. I will settle for F-VF if it is a nice balance for the higher-end stamps. Your page is motivating me to continue the search. |

watermark, just a note - that is :
The $2 roller cancelation appears to be "UNION STN" "TORONTO" the STN is short for STATION. It is a train station below and the old Post Office was above it. |

I've noticed that the prices for the high-value Jubilees have been creeping up this past year. I used to see them for ~$400 and now they seem to be going for ~$600. Crap. |

Thanks to a tip from watermark, I just purchased a $5 Jubilee. Three more to go. I think I will spread out the purchase of these three stamps over the next year, to minimize my sticker shock of spending almost $500 on an old scrap of paper. :) |

I hope the $5 Jubilee is as nice as it appeared. That is probably the least expensive mint $5 I have seen. Hope you share it here when it arrives. I hope you also find good buys on the others you need. |

Right now, the auctions I follow have the $2, $3 and $4 all up for grabs. I am seriously tempted to bid on all three so when I get back to Canada for the summer, I will have completed the series, something I would have thought impossible years ago. It's a lot of money but I am going to do it anyway so why not go for it?
I won't be able to share this stamp right away since it is being sent to Canada. I won't see it until the end of July. |
