The Start Of An Expensive Phase In My Collecting

Just picked up my first high value Jubilee. My goal is to complete my entire Davo album and I am getting near the end. Have all the Jubilees from 50 cents down, which were not too bad to get but this is now going to get expensive. The goal is by next June, finish up all the Jubilees.

Since I just finished my Small Queens, the next is the Large Queens. How expensive could that be?

Will probably do proofs for the Pence and Provincial issues since they look nicer and are much cheaper.

Sorry, I meant the Province of Canada stamps. The other province stamps, like Newfoundland and such, will be next once I finish the Canadian album.

Are you collecting only mint?

Nice $1 Jubilee. I am missing all the high values as well. I hope to find them F/VF used with nice cancels - that will take a while - especially if I am hoping for deals.

The hign value jubilee are very hard to find without a roller cancel.

It is a lovely stamp and is a bargain if it can be had at the estimated price of $300,000 to $400,000. Good luck!

GJP, Unfortunately , that is merely a used copy. He is looking for a mint example. ..lol

Based sole-ly on the title of your post, I jumped to the conclusion that your "expensive phase" of collecting had to do with purchasing hingeless albums! It seems I was partially correct :)

I am also watching for the $3 and $4 Jubilees and my $2 is a messy roller cancel. The stamps are around if you look hard enough but expect to pay a lot of money for good copies. Then try Newfoundland 1-10 or New Brunswick 3-4. PEI 1-3 are attainable but hard to find without faults.

M $5 and UMM $3 Jubilees here - items 461 and 462 - for you wealthy Canadians with £200-600 to spend. I'm usually found at the bargain basement area of these sales.

Back in the late 1950s (I was probably 12 or 13 years old at the time) I, like so many kids back then, was a novice stamp collector. My father was a TV repairman here in Victoria. One Saturday he had to make a house call for a repair and told me that I could come along. His customers turned out to be a retired couple and pleased to have a youngster along for a visit. The husband asked if I had any hobbies and I said I had started on a coin and a stamp collection. He told me he had been a stamp collector since he was a young man and would I like to see something from his Canada collection. I certainly did! He smiled and brought out just one item. It was a complete set of mint Jubilee stamps, 1/2 cent to $5 - in matching corner plate block of four! I was speechless! I had a two or three of the low value used examples so I knew of the stamps. I wonder what that set would be worth today? I have asked a couple of long time stamp dealers in the city if they had ever heard of this set surfacing but none had.

Well, it's the end of April and I still only have the $1 Jubilee. Had no luck in finding the rest of them at prices I want to pay. I recently gave up somewhat on my goal for complete mint Canada and have been looking at proofs for the Province of Canada issues. I got my first one (#20) and it was really nice. Looks a lot better than the originals. Been thinking about getting the proofs for the rest of the Jubilees but they don't go for much cheaper so the hunt continues.

To Rileysan, yeah the albums were expensive and the annual pages get expensive but it sure does look pretty.
