I have been sorting through some batches of precancels that I acquired 2-3 years ago or so and found the following. If real, they are a pretty exciting pair of finds, so I wanted to share and see if anyone can confirm or deny ...

I am pretty sure the Bend, OR, one is in fact the T-871 (cv $150) - does anyone have info to deflate my balloon?

As for the Magnolia, AR, it does not fit any of the other types in the catalog, but it does seem sized to fit the catalog picture of T-549 (cv -A-, i.e. rare). However, it's not very clearly printed, so I wonder if anyone knows the answer and/or has a true T-549 from Magnolia or anywhere else that they could post a pic of for comparison?

Jan - these both look good to me - great finds!
If you want to trade the Magnolia, I would be interested.

Jan,
I believe the Bend, Oregon is the real deal. Nice find! Happy dance!
I will defer to chasa to verify the Magnolia, AR as he has more experience/knowledge in the precancel arena. He might even have a scan of one of these to compare it to.

I do not own a copy of the Magnolia, I have the Bend. A picture - similar - of Magnolia, is on Fred Ingram's reference pages inside the PSS website. It is on the same 10c denomination which is a good sign.

Thanks for the confirmation. But tragedy has struck. There was a hinge remnant on the back and when I soaked it off just now ... the stamp is actually in 2 pieces. You can tell in the scan if you look at the border running right to left at the top. The tear passes from 7:30 o'clock to 1:30 o'clock above the ST of Postage. But I had no idea til I soaked it -- the entire piece that came off is an area about 8mm x 9mm starting just above the MA of Magnolia.

So, I didn't really plan on trading or selling it, chasa, but does it have *any* value?

When it dries, I am going to attach a new hinge on the back to hold it together (I doubt I can do it as well as the fiend who did it the first time!).

Luckily, it really was just in a job lot, so it cost me next to nothing.
