Bennet M. Allen, the person named in that cover to Madison, Wisconsin had quite an interesting career:

Bennet Mills Allen was born in Green Castle, Indiana, July 4, 1877; attended De Paul University, and received his PhD from the University of Chicago (1903); he taught Anatomy and Zoology at the University of Wisconsin; became professor of zoology at the University of Kansas, 1913; joined the Southern Branch of the University of California, 1922, and became a professor, and eventually the first chairman, in the department of Zoology; he was part of a small group initiating research on the emerging field of neuroendocrinology; as professor emeritus he pursued research in the UCLA Atomic Energy Project and in 1957, his eightieth birthday, he was awarded an honorary LLD by UCLA; died in 1963 in Los Angeles.

Bennet Mills Allen , son of Albert and Alice Bennet Allen, was born in Greencastle, Ind., on July. 4, 1877. He received the degrees of Ph.B. in 1898 and an honorary D.Sc. in 1935 from DePauw University and the Ph.D. degree in 1903 from the University of Chicago. He married Gazelle Burgess on Aug. 22, 1904, and they had one daughter, Hazel. Allen taught anatomy at the University of Wisconsin, 1903-13, and zoology at the University of Kansas, 1913-22. From 1922 to 1948 he was a member of the biology and zoology departments at the University of California ( Los Angeles ). He died on Dec. 2, 1963.
