Hi all,
I have a number of full sheets of stamps (and some that only have a few stamps left on the sheet) that have been CTO? (I presume CTO stands for Cancelled To Order), if I am wrong then please correct me. In the past I have bought "lots" and among them these have been present, so I have just put them inside of a little box and left them their not knowing how to sell them as they don't interest me, all I really need is to sell them so I can buy some more lighter fluid to check my wilding's . I know they will be worthless as I never pay high prices for the stuff that I get due to lack of funds currently as I am studying at college and hopefully university within 1 year. In about 2 weeek's (14 days) I will start to upload pictures of the sheets but currently I have to do mandatory tasks (e.g college, uni application, homework, family matter's, Halloween etc), Im sorry I cannot upload them at present but will do within 2 weeks,
My question's are as follows:
1) Who would buy this material?
1a)Is their a specialist market for them?(just like watermark collector's)
2) How would I find the value of each sheet?
3) Is it best to sell them in certain ways?(full sheets or part sheets?) I presume the full sheet is the best but then again I do not know this area very well sorry. (I normally study wilding's and pre-decimas and decimal defins)

Anybody with any knowledge within this field then please stay close by and monitor this thread as I will be uploading them within 2 weeks, any help would be really beneficial to me.
Thankyou in advance,
Turbo

You don't mention what country these stamps are from ...

As a rule, CTOs don't have much value. If your sheets are of single stamps (as opposed to different stamps within each sheet) you can expect even less money per stamp.

To answer your questions directly:

1) People who might buy these stamps: Sheet collectors, scrapbookers, children's stamp club coordinators, mentally ill.

1a) Refer to question 1

2) Sheet values are never listed by the most common worldwide catalogues (Scott, Michel, Gibbons). Retail value is probably .01/stamp.

3) Best way to sell? It depends on how much work you want to put into it. Tally the total number of stamps and sell as one huge lot, or break down the lots into managable batches that can be shipped via 1st class postage (and try to make a little extra $$ off shipping).

Summation. Don't expect more than a penny per stamp - and even less if sold as one, large lot.

Thankyou Rileysan for that information, I have not looked at them too much to be honnest as they do not interest me, they are different country's I believe, may I ask why people would actually buy a full sheet of stamps and then get them cancelled at the post office?
Thanks Turbo

The term CTO (cancelled to order) might be a little confusing. CTOs are produced by an issuing country for the express purpose of selling used stamps to the collector market, as opposed to purchasing new stamps and requesting the cancellation of said stamps by a postal agent.

This practice is extremely common in countries throughout Central/Eastern Europe, Asia, and nearly every island location that relies on tourism.

Thankyou again for the invaluable knowledge, how would I best describe them then? I have (at a rough guess) 40 sheets cancelled by a postal agent.
Thanks Turbo
