On my soon-to-be-ending goal to collect every Canadian stamp, I have been working my way backwards through my albums. Just received in the mail my latest auction win, Scott #45A, which finishes off my Small Queens. All I have left is the $2-$5 Jubilees, the Large Queens and the Provincial issues. Shouldn't be that expensive, right?

Yeah, I have decided to go for proofs for the first page of my album (all the pence and cents issues) but I am dreading the cost of the high Jubilees and those pesky Large Queens. I have all the Large Queens in used but it is not the same. My goal for the year is to concentrate on the last four Jubilees with the goal of getting them in mint by next July. Will probably get some more proofs during this year as well since the prices are not so bad. Really dreading the Large Queens though. Going to be pricy.

Never been a fan of used stamps. They look dirty to me. (Stands back to avoid the onslaught) :)

I don't have my catalogue here with me (i'm at work) but are there proofs for the Large Queens? Would that be a viable option instead of the horrendous prices for the actual mint versions?

Yeah I agree Tom most the classics where destroyed with their cancels, but If you find a nice light readable CDS or SON on a used to me that gets my blood pumping! Thats where art meets history!!

Congrats!
Answering your question:
Its only expensive if you don't have lots of money.
Numbers 31 and 32 are stumbling blocks for me.

Don't recall having a problem with 31 and 32 ( don't really remember) but this one took a long time in finding. Even though I was looking for the 45, I settled for the 45A since I seemed to see this variety a lot more than the regular one.

Congratulations to you Tom, nothing like that satisfying aura of completing a goal, and knowing you had fun and preserving something as well...

I've recently completed the Newfoundland set (except for 8 of the uber $5,000 varieties of course) in both mint and used. Nicely set in Lighthouse albums. Now I am seeking to get the same for each stamp on a cover--why don't you do the same for Canada?

Or come and focus on Newfies...the varieties are endless.

Cheers

Congratulations Tom.

It is always nice to achieve a goal and the Small Queens is no easy task to complete.

Since I am also trying to get one of each Canadian stamp, I cannot afford 31, 32 and 33 which are the laid paper varieties of 22, 24 and 25 so that I just settle for the more affordable wove paper versions. Also, I try not to get caught up with catalog number completeness because some varieties get a whole number while other varieties just get a letter. It is hard to figure out how catalogs are based sometimes.

Oops, small mistake in my last post. I was looking at my spreadsheet of missing stamps and simply assumed 31 and 32 were normal Small Queens. I don't have them and probably never will. :)

Also, I am not going for catalogue completeness, but just trying to fill every place in my Davo Hingeless album.

And Tommy, Newfoundland and the other Provinces are my next area of interest. My plan is to watch the auctions for a nice album filled with the more common issues and then build upon that. Lost out on one at the last Vance Auction but more will come up.
