I thought most Newfoundland stamps are reasonable price, especially the 20th century. It's just those really old ones that are painful.
Then again, I remember talking to someone about Newfoundland stamps and he mentioned that it was very difficult to find VF centring on mint stamps and that they usually go at a premium. |

TomSwift....most of my 1800's NFLD stamps are fine to very fine centering....I have a few off center, but should not be too hard to come across.

If you watch closely for #31 and #33 you can find them for a few $100 dollars. There are several #33's listed on ebay but if you buy from that source be sure it has a certificate preferably from the VG Greene Foundation. #31 is a little harder to find and will cost more get it with a certificate, too. #32 as I know might be found but is exceedingly rare with only three reported copies the last one sold for $215,000 but was originally purchased for about $60 as has been reported. Took about 55 years of searching to find it. Hoping you have Good luck. |

Congratulations. Gotta say that a full set of mint small queens is pretty impressive. I just completed my Arch/Leaf set today with the dollar value (177) and that made my week. I collect VF or better MNH so I think a set of small queens is out of my league. I am definitely going to have to settle for some hinged and used copies as I move back towards the Victoria era.

I don't care about hinges or gum so that made a difference. As well, the centring was F/VF on a few if they were aesthetically pleasing to me. I am not a huge stickler for anything other than centring so that made it a bit easier. |

Watermark, I am not overly concerned about varieties and such. Maybe one day but when I finish my album completion goal. Didn't realize you could pick up #31 and #33 for so little. Thought they would be more. |

Tom,
As Wert knows -- once you go Newfie, you will never look back...
In my opinion, it is not hard to find used or mint with decent centering if that is your aim. Lots of stamps out there. NH is the bigger challenge in my view. Of course, there are 10 stamps beyond the $5,000 price range, so forget those. But beside those, given that Newfoundland is a non-issuing country, its achievable to fill in most of the blanks.
Once you come to the dark side like Wert, we can create a separate category on SCF of Newfoundland only! |

Quote: we can create a separate category on SCF of Newfoundland only! that would be so cool... Tommy...haha I also give credit to the Newfoundlanders who were the quite heros in WW1 and WW2...Using there land in the war to ship and refuel planes..My hat is off to them... TomSwift..like Tommy says, start collecting the Canadian Provinces as I have done..Costing me money and time and frustration..But boy is it worth it... |
