I had the opportunity, last evening in Campbell River, BC, to meet and chat with noted Canadian artist Robert Bateman who was in town for a signing.

He was kind enough to autograph my FDC of #732 (block of 4) as well as the Canada Post folder which came with the CP 1977-81 series of eight endangered species stamps .

He was commissioned to paint five of them.

When I asked if he's been commissioned to do more stamps for CP, he said no; adding that the the artists were told by CP not to put their signatures on their works.

Now.....for the Stamp Community Forum SCOOP:

Bateman told me he hid his Children's initials in the bark of the tree.

Your mission, SCF members, should you choose to accept it, is to find the initials.

Clue: Bateman children are Alan, Sarah, John, Christopher and Rob.

Added Challenge: He didn't say how many initials were hidden

Bonus quest: Find the hidden date.

Prize: 1 MNH #732 CV $.30. (hey! I have only two of them)

Good hunting!

I think you zoomed in way too much for the letter "C". I see it here:

And, if you squint really hard, the "R" could be way back here:
