Anyone any ideas about these stamps? The left one seems to be from China, the other one totally baffles me.

It's from Iran, issued 1991.

More precisely, the left one is a 'wheat-type' revenue stamp from the Chinese province of Manchuria mid 1920s-early 1930s. No doubt the overprint localises it more precisely still.

The Chinese stamp is actually inscribed for Shansi/Shanxi Province, and the overprint is for Northern Shansi/Shanxi, using an old name for the area.
