Here is another oldie but goodie.

I thought it was #29, but it appears to be #28...

Also--the business envelope is curious : A NY insurance company based in Halifax? not listed in Walsh's NSSC either...

That does not suggest it was based in Halifax. Only that they had a Halifax office. Nice cover.

Tommy...Halifax was a major port at that time and if Mutual had any dealings with ships, it would definitely have at least an agent there to deal with queries from Head Office

Although the original posted covers are lost (presumably from the HD crash yesterday) these illustrations will go to prove that J.A. Johnson (a/k/a Jacob A. Johnson) was connected with the Mutual Life Insurance Company of New York (Halifax, NS office):

In fact, it's also interesting to note that it would seem that Jacob A. Johnson was also Deputy-Mayor and a Ward 2 Alderman in Halifax, Nova Scotia during the period of 1907-1909:

Helpful information, I quite enjoy the historical aspect of covers.

Upon further examination and reflection, I believe this stamp is #29 not #28 as posted. Primarily because of the date used of 1894.

A re-up of the original pics would be great.

I don't recall what both images were, but this is a screenshot of one of the images apparently cached on Google images that prompted my response in connection with J.A. Johnson and the Mutual Life Insurance Company of New York, Halifax, Nova Scotia:
