I've spent that last couple evenings trying to identify a few Swiss Strubels. I only have the Scott basic So-Z catalog. I searched the forum and found a thread from 2012, linked below. Also found a nice three page study on another site, also, link below.

I have concluded that my 5 Rappen "Strudel" is a Bern II, 1855-56. It's not a perfect match but seems the best fit.

Some issue's I have with it are this. The printing on Helvetia's chest and neck. Mine shows less then the example on the stamp world site. On mine the ornaments in the corner aren't as sharp and even the lettering is different. Mine shows "fatter letters".
But I still lean towards Bern II due to the cancel and the lack of emerald thread.

I agree with your assumption that it is probably a Bern printing. Since I have only Scott and Michel catalogs (latter not specialized), that would be Scott 24 and MI 13 II. Further detail than that would required specialized catalog. But its been a couple years since I worked on my Strubels.

Excellent, thanks for checking this out. I enjoyed figuring this one out. I like these stamps. There's enough variety to make you have to study a bit. But not so complicated as the the U.S., W/F and others, seem to be.
