I am searching some of my stamps in the catalogues for finding their right number.

I have a problem with the hereunder attached.

It's a swiss stamp : Scott #75 - But it can be #75a !
I have checked in the Schweizer SBK ( catalogue for Switzerland made by the Swiss stamps dealers)
It shows the picture of the 2 stamps. Mine is between both.( not yellow, but not so orange )

I have also checked in the Michel. But I don't have the catalogue of Michel Specialized for Switzerland where the 2 stamps are shown.
And I don't have the Zumstein for Switzerland.

Finally, I checked on a very interesting site for early Swiss stamps and their history.
And I found the picture of the 2 stamps.
Mine is EXACTLY like that one shown as the variant!

I need your help for confirmation:
Have you the Specialized Michel for Switzerland and the Zumstein also specialized for Switzerland ?
Can you put on the site the picture of the 2 stamps ?
Has somebody the stamp # 75a? Can you put a picture of it ?

Hereunder pictures of
- My stamp
- The picture from SBK catalogue
- The picture from the site timbressuisses

Thank you for your comments.

Your scan is too small of your stamp. With the paper stained a tan color ,the question has to be asked was it chemically treated .

Both Zumstein and Scott has this stamp on two different papers , you haven't stated what kind of paper it is on . The Zumstein catalog shows the white paper [Weisses papier} color being closer to the orange variety of the orange color of the granite paper than the yellow of the granite paper .

it's a granite paper ( faserpapier)

It is not a white paper.

The "orange" variety appears after 1887 ( the Swiss Post stopped printing the dangerous yellow 15c in 1887.
The date on my stamp is compatible with that.

this is the back of my stamp - there is no stain; I think that it's only a remaining when cleaning the stamp.

I attached the enlarged picture of the corner for showing the silk threads in the paper.

And the verso of my stamp :

@floortrader
If you have it, could you post a copy of the and/or scott/Michel/Zumstein showing the right nuance of yellow/orange of the 75a?
Thank you

Your price for selling that stamp is way out of line , $3400.00 shees! . With the condition it is in and what auction results are that stamp would get a bid from me in the $500.00 to $400.00 range .

Look here:
http://www.ebay.fr/itm/nystamps-Swi...em487e424640
They wrote that their stamp has a CV of 4750 USD. Where is that amount coming from? In my Scott 2009 it is written 4000 USD.
And in addition IT IS NOT a 75A ! 66USD for a stamp which has a CV of 29USD... It's a good deal, isn't it?

Uh, Priatel, the seller of the supposed 75a who is getting bids of $66 dollars right now has been known to misidentify stamps and misstate values. That ebay offer is irrelevant to what you do with your stamp.

Peter4522, Priatel does have a Swiss expertiser's certificate for his stamp.

But the issue is not the cv of the stamp or its identity. The issue, as Floortrader correctly points out is what percentage of cv can be expected for this stamp.

Priatel could list the cv as $6000 or $3000 or $3788 or $4933 or whatever. At issue is what people are willing to pay for it. Floortrader suggested about 10% or 12% Sounds about right to me.

The 2015 Scott catalog value for a VF used Switzerland #75a with no faults is $5750, unchanged from 2014. The 2011 Scott catalog value is at $4000.

So the $4750 figure given by the seller is either from 2012/2013 catalog, or is a typo (which apparently is very common occurrence in the listing titles/descriptions of that seller )

I concur with Pagoda. Your stamp cancelled 23Jan1888 does not appear to be the yellow-orange variety.

Don't compare to the color in the SBPV certificate -- that color reproduction is off. The certificate is not designed to color match -- only provide enough resolution to identify the certificate to the stamp features. Compare to the color in the scanned image to the bottom left of the certificate shown in the ebay listing you provided.

@khj
Hmmm..I don't understand !
The ORANGE stamp on the left side of the certificate from P. Guignand is my stamp. I am no more talking about the stamp of the 1st message of the present topic.

Except the 2 teeth, the stamp is in good condition as mentionned by the expert, with fresh color.

For an ordinary (expansive but common) stamp, with 2 teeth less, I agree to make a discount of 50-80% on the CV.
BUT for mine, the scarcity of the stamp compensate that fault.

Don't forget that it is VERY RARE to find such a stamp for sale ! And in addition, the stamp itself is scarce.
The owners of such stamps don't sell them because they know that they will never find an opportunity for buying another one again!
And thus, there are nearly no such stamps on the market.
That means that the demand is much more higher than the offer !

For that reason, I think that, for such a SCARCE stamp, my discount of maximum 40% is not a mistake..

My point was that the stamp shown in the bottom left corner of the listing (which apparently you now own) is the correct comparison for your 23Jan1888 cancelled stamp.
