If you go to the web site for the Royal Philatelic Society of Canada (www.rpsc.org) there is an educational clip done by Peter Butler demonstrating a perfectly safe and foolproof method for removing self adhesive stamps from paper without damaging the stamp or using dangerous solvents.

I have used Peter's process on hundreds of Machins and haven't damaged one yet!

Since Peter's process uses PURE CITRUS room deodorizer, the side benefit is that your stamp room smells nice when you finish the job.

Pure Citrus works like a charm and is found in stores next to similar air freshener sprays (Febreze, Glade, etc). It's not a huge seller so not necessarily every grocery store would have it. My local Wal-Mart sells it, but it gets literally 3 inches of shelf space out of the probably 40-60 feet or more of total shelf space they have for all air fresheners. I always have a hard time finding it and every time I go to buy some I think they must have quit carrying it until I find it hiding amongst all the other air fresheners. I go through it quicker because I also use it as...an air freshener! It does a really good job of neutralizing odors - better than just about anything else on the market.

Limonene is the active ingredient in all of the 'citrus' class of air fresheners:

I bought my can of Pure Citrus from Home Depot, which aggressively prices cleaners et al.

And paint thinner ;)

Of course, being me, that can of Pure Citrus is waiting to be mated with a round tuit.

Cheers,
