Hi all, this is my first post on this forum and I'm not sure if I am in the right area. I was going through some of my grandmothers items and found some US war savings certificates series of 1919, these certificates are completely blank. No name is filled in and there are no stamps. I just wanted to see if any of you could help me gather some more information on these? Are these worth anything if they have no stamps?

Thanks for any information you can provide!

Brittany: I suggest you take them to a local auction house, especially one that deals in what they call ephemera (paper products) for evaluation. I'm sure they would be of interest to a certain audience.

These were the second of four different certificates (1918, 1919, 1920, 1921) that accompanied the 4 different $5 war savings certificate stamps. They are not easy to find (with or without the stamps) but (in my experience, and I have a gold-medal exhibit of postal savings/war savings material) very few people collect them, which keeps prices relatively low. I think of them as $20 items without the stamps, but buyers are scarce.

There is a recent book by Harry Charles on postal savings and war savings material that was published by the United States Stamp Society, which I highly recommend to anyone interested in the area.

It was issued at the end of WWI. though and that's interesting. Neat item!

Thank you all for your help. I think I will try to contact someone who specializes in ephemera to find out more and maybe even read that book as now I am interested in learning more about war saving certificates! I have 4 of them in perfect condition and will hang on to them just like my grandma has done all these years.
