This is my favourite stamp book, written and illustrated by Maud and Miska Petersham. Long out of print and well overdue for a re-issue.

2008 Scott set
2012 Unitrade
1993 Scott Specialized
2010 Brookman (not my favourite catalog)
as well as numerous books about stamps in general, and stuff like the 1938 Regent catalog. Almost all were free or very cheap from silent auctions. :)

IS there a more up to date Stamp Atlas available? If not there needs to be one. The world looks much different now than it did in 1973 when the last stamp atlas books seem to have been written. This is a great thread. I've learned alot about the literature available. Can anyone recommend a good bookseller of such literature? Someone who specializes in books?

I just found this at a local used book store for $5. It is a very beautiful book and I will now be dreaming of what I will do if I ever win the lottery!

(images 'borrowed' from a web site as the book is too large for my scanner and my phone has a very poor camera)

I just found a copy of this book on Amazon and I am looking forward to getting it, although I don't think the book will come with a dust jacket.

Hi thirdfour,

I am sure you will enjoy it anyway. The husband and wife team of illustrators (sadly now gone) have a big reputation in the US, and their style is wonderfully distinctive. Their daughter is Elizabeth Petersham, known for children's book illustration. The book is hard to find in fine condition with the wrapper. The wrapper on mine has pieces missing and is temporarily backed (not stuck) with white art paper. It is one of my treasures.

Terry

These old philatelic books are really a collectible topic all by themselves.

Another well known husband and wife team that published books was Douglas and Mary Patrick. They were well known here in Canada anyway, and, for a while, even had a broadcasted radio show. I can't remember which station they were on.

Times have sure changed.

In my last posting, I referred to Douglas and Mary Patrick.

This is a book that they wrote back in 1964. I recently got this book at an auction only about 3 months ago.

This one was mentioned much earlier in this thread, but since I just picked it up (free), I thought I would post it again. "Fun and Profit in Stamp Collecting", by Herman Herst, Jr. What is interesting, is that it is signed by the author.

For those of us who never learn and need constant reminders, here are a few items from the Table of Contents:

Rarity alone does not make value

Very nice partime

I also like the table of contents and agree there as well.
