A recent addition for me. These were purchased in very poor condition with pages falling out and covers almost entirely off (very cheap but just not usable). I used a local book restore service that usually deals with old bibles. They took the covers off the original books and mounted them to new boards, stitched the pages back together and generated the spines to match the originals. The gilded edges are still good and the book is now usable. I was very pleased with the results. (took about 6 weeks but worth it).

I just purchased this one today. Finally it should be possible to positively identify shades of the Classic French!

The advert states (Google translated)
"After years of research, we have established this great study (of shades) with 375 references in images to allow you to follow all the evolution of our classic stamps from 1849 to 1876. You will thus find all the nuances of stamps classified from N ° 1 to N ° 60 with their main nuances and rarer shades. They concern the 1st Ceres, the non-serrated Napoleon, serrated and laureate, the Ceres of Paris and Bordeaux as well as the Serrated Ceres. We have also enclosed a complete 15-page leaflet with the presentation of all these facials, the list of stamps chosen for our color chart on a table which will indicate the different references used in the catalogs"

I have no clue how this brochure actually looks inside, however I have found an image of its predecessor. (this earlier version did not cover the first Ceres and the latest Perf Ceres)

Now I can't wait to revisit France!

(Will try not to spill any tears for all those Ceres and Napoleons in difficult shades I once had and did not manage to identify. They are long gone into lots for sale ...)

Blaamand

Do you have a link for the seller of the Ceres-Napoleon book, please? It may be just a little sophisticated for me, of course!

Geoff - Sure - good to see I am not the only one twisted enough to dive into this abyss!

(Moderators:I hope I am not violating any rules by posting the link as requested?)

When I hit 'Buy' this afternoon it was 1 sold - 2 left in stock. Unfortunately it seems someone has already bought the last copy since then . But I also found this site:

I wish I had not seen this. I cannot unsee it. Here I thought I had France reasonably under control.
